Derek Bermel 'Intonations'

Welcome to the latest episode of Harmonious World, featuring a conversation with composer and clarinettist Derek Bermel.

Derek's latest album includes compositions for a range of ensembles and soloists and the first track I feature is Derek himself on clarinet. Intonations is a wonderful album.

Thanks to Derek for allowing me to play extracts from Intonations alongside our conversation.

Don't forget the Quincy Jones quote that sums up why I do this: "Imagine what a harmonious world it would be if every single person, both young and old, shared a little of what he is good at doing."

Nadia Shpachenko 'Invasion'

Welcome to the latest episode of Harmonious World, featuring a conversation with Grammy award-winning Ukrainian-American pianist Nadia Shpachenko.

Nadia's latest album features works by composer Lewis Spratlan, who sadly died just a few days before this episode came out. He leaves a marvellous legacy and this album in particular contains some of his stunning works, created for Nadia. The title track is Invasion, a piece written in just a few days following Russia's initial attachs on Ukraine in February 2022.

Thanks to Nadia for allowing me to play extracts from Invasion alongside our conversation.

Don't forget the Quincy Jones quote that sums up why I do this: "Imagine what a harmonious world it would be if every single person, both young and old, shared a little of what he is good at doing."
