Musician

Much of my life has been dominated by music and yes, I would consider myself a musician. Playing the saxophone still takes me to my happy place.

There are exciting plans ahead for more of the same, but I'm sometimes asked what life was like as a sax player with Paul Weller's The Style Council.

All I can really reply is that it was a balance of roughly equal amounts of hard work and fun. It's hard to believe that nearly 40 years have passed since this period in my life.

The definitive history of the band is told nowhere better than in Iain Munn's book - The Style Council: Mr Cool's Dream. I made some small contributions to the updated paperback version.

And for anyone ready to watch some videos from 39 or so years ago, here are some links:

My Ever Changing Moods live on The Tube, November 1983
My Ever Changing Moods on Top of the Tops, 16 February 1984
My Ever Changing Moods on Saturday Superstore, 18 February 1984
Headstart for Happiness on Saturday Superstore, 18 February 1984

The documentary 'Long Hot Summers: the story of the Style Council' is on Sky in the UK from time to time, but the trailer itself is interesting. I made a tiny contribution.

There is also an interesting episode of the 'Desperately Seeking Paul' from April 2021 where I was interviewed.

Do you have a picture wrapped up in the loft that you are not allowed to look at? You don't seem to have changed much since 1984.
