Art in the oddest places

Image
While wandering on a dog walk, I came across this strange juxtaposition of nature and man. Some stunning art on the walls of a disused railway bridge. I  love combinations that shock or surprise. The expression 'thinking outside the box' has become a cliche, but it sums up a different way of looking at life. Anything which challenges preconceptions and prejudices must be a good thing.

Forwards. Always forwards (with a bit of a break along the way)

This Easter, I shall mostly be taking a break from work. From my regular clients, anyway. I have one special job that has to be done, but apart from that, I'm switching off. Looby and I have begun the HOOP (Hitchin Outer Orbital Path), part of which includes much of our usual dog walk route. However, we're going to do the whole HOOP in the next few days and weeks - one stage at a time. We did 4km this morning and I'm taking a break now. More to come.

The effort of writing

Image
Samuel Johnson summed up the 'art' of writing with: "What is written without effort is read without pleasure." Last night, I had the pleasure of being in the audience while comedian Frank Skinner interviewed Steven Moffat ( Doctor Who, Jekyll, Sherlock ). Moffat echoed JOhnson's view: "I love having written and getting a good show out there. I think it would be overstating things a little to say I love the actual writing." It was good to hear that. I love my writing, but it's less about the process and more about getting lost in a story, or interviewing someone and trying to make sense of it. The end product is definitely worth it - even though my product isn't (yet) available on screen.

Accidental art

I took this photo while walking the dog. It's simply stunning and quite by accident. No filter, no fiddling.
