The effort of writing
Samuel Johnson summed up the 'art' of writing with: "What is written without effort is read without pleasure." Last night, I had the pleasure of being in the audience while comedian Frank Skinner interviewed Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Jekyll, Sherlock). Moffat echoed JOhnson's view: "I love having written and getting a good show out there. I think it would be overstating things a little to say I love the actual writing."
It was good to hear that. I love my writing, but it's less about the process and more about getting lost in a story, or interviewing someone and trying to make sense of it. The end product is definitely worth it - even though my product isn't (yet) available on screen.
