Focus on music that makes the world a better place

There’s a subtle change afoot with my blog, alongside the podcast Harmonious World - from now on, both will focus on music that makes the world a better place. There are no genre barriers and I will be reviewing albums and live performances. It has always been my aim to bring a positive spin wherever possible and to help spread the word on great music.

So, if you are looking for new music to listen to, regardless of the genre, then you’ve come to the right place.

Since starting Harmonious World, I have interviewed some incredible musicians and in the first season I was lucky enough to speak to both Laila Biali and Maria Schneider. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

When I was a teenager, I loved classical music, but the first piece of music that I was really aware of was George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and that famous opening solo is what persuaded me to begin learning the clarinet. If Gershwin had been writing fifty years later, he might have been writing for jazz ensembles as much as symphony orchestras. It was a particular delight to chat with composer Peter Boyer about his Rhapsody in Red, White and Blue during 2024 and I have a forthcoming interview with pianist Jeffrey Biegel who performed on that album.

Music has always been my driving force, with words simply a way of expressing what I heard and experienced. This blog is absolutely a culmination of all those years - a LOT of years - of combining the two.
